During my tasting with Luc, I was also able to taste a few older vintages. The 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon Passionnement is showing beautifully and has the open, sexy, seamless style of the vintage front and center. Blueberries, graphite, loads of spice, and some forest floor notes give way to a full-bodied, elegant and seamless 2012 that’s on the early edge of its drink window. I loved these latest releases from Luc Morlet and family, and they show a sensational mix of classic, balanced, even old-school, characters mixed with killer California fruit. As a whole, the 2014s show more elegance and complexity, with the 2015s possessing more power and richness. These are rockstar wines.

The full-bodied 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon Passionnément, which comes from the Oakville Bench, was aged in new oak puncheons. There are 250 cases of this Pauillac-like offering. It possesses notes of Christmas fruitcake, spice box, vanillin and black fruits in its opulent, open-knit personality. Drink 2018-2035.
The 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon Passionnément is a blend of the best lots in the cellar, in this year barrels from Andy Beckstoffer's To Kalon and Missouri Hopper vineyards. A powerful, resonant wine, the 2012 offers up generous dark cherry, plum, espresso, violet, grilled herb and camphor notes. It is a classic Morlet wine from this era. Most importantly, the 2012 is developing beautifully in bottle.
