A selection of parcels behind the chateau that aged 22–24 months in new French oak, the 2016 Cuvee Dame Honneur du Chateau Lagrezette is a blend of 89% Malbec and 11% Merlot. The smoky, spicy oak defines the nose, but on the full-bodied palate, the concentration and intensity of the Malbec comes through loud and clear, adding layers of persistent black cherries, plums and licorice to vanilla and cinnamon. Full-bodied and velvety, it's nearly approachable now, but it should age 10+ years without much difficulty.

One of the flagships from this reference point estate in Cahors is the 2016 Cuvée Dame Honneur, a selection of the best terroirs of the estate. Beautiful red, black, and blue fruits as well as notes of spice, chocolate, violets, white pepper, and white flowers all soar from the glass. These carry to a full-bodied Cahors that has a massive core of fruit, full-bodied richness, and sweet tannins. It’s another 2016 from this estate that delivers loads of power and richness paired with notable purity and elegance. It reminds me of a great Pomerol and will shine for 15+ years or more.

95% Malbec and 5% Merlot. Some volatile acidity on the nose and also pretty fumy. So concentrated it's like chewing on liquorice wrapped in leather. Really hard work at the moment with still plenty of oak in evidence. Just a bit too alcoholic for balance. (TC)

A fantastic red from Cahors with aromas and flavors of spice, dried meat, dry earth and dark berries. Full body, firm tannins and a wonderful, flavorful finish. One of the best Cahors I have had. Drink or hold.
