Score 92/100 · Drink 2026-2035, Joe Czerwinski, Wine Advocate, Feb 2025
Named for the landmark iron gate at the estate's entrance, the 2022 Pinot Noir The Famous Gate is almost entirely (84%) Swan selection, with smaller proportions of Hanzell (13%) and Clone 115 (3%). Aged 16 months in 45% new French oak, it weathered the heat of the vintage remarkably well, showcasing red raspberries and cherries on the nose, joined by subtle spice and floral shadings. It's medium to full-bodied on the palate, with a certain graininess to its texture and a slightly coarse texture on the finish, but give it another year or two in the cellar and it should show greater polish and elegance.
