Fruit from Howell Mountain at 1,700-1,600 ft. Ridiculously heavy bottle. Deep bright crimson. Fragrant with attractively dusty dark fruit. Lovely fine fruit here, fragrant and dark and rocky at the same time. The tannins are starting to resolve though there's some chocolatey chew on the finish. Smooth and generous. Just about approachable now but has a way to go and more complexity to come. (JH)

Bottled as a Napa Valley appellation but made from Howell Mountain fruit. Earthy and dark-fruit aromatics move into sweet fruit and spiced cocoa on the palate. Has plenty of tannins but softer mouthfeel so that the tannins are persistent and palate cleansing while non-aggressive. Moderate acidity with a long finish. (ECB)
