Verduno. Mid ruby. Leafy cherry fruit with a savoury spice note. Concentrated, fragrant sweet-sour cherry that is strikingly elegant in spite of its 15%. Long and elegant and with fine, polished tannins. Ready now. (WS)

The Paolo Scavino 2018 Barolo Monvigliero offers dried rose and smoky notes with crushed stone and peppery spice. This is a steady and careful production of 4,800 bottles, and the wine has a lean or compact mouthfeel and a special personality with rigid pinpoint aromas that rise tall from the glass.

The 2018 Barolo Monvigliero is such a classy wine. Bright floral and spice notes lead into a core of sweet red cherry fruit in a nervy, beautifully focused Barolo that delivers the goods. All the elements are so well balanced. There is a touch of classical austerity, and yet the Monvigliero has just enough mid-palate pliancy and sweetness to pull it off.
