The 2019 Gevrey-Chambertin Lavaux Saint-Jacques 1er Cru is reticent on the nose despite coaxing, but I feel it has just gone into its shell for a while. It still seems well-defined and pretty, as its red fruit mixes with briar and rose petal. All the constituent parts are here. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red fruit. Showing fine weight and concentration, this is a "correct" Lavaux Saint-Jacques. There is a real precision and poise toward the finish, coupled with excellent sapidity. Give this time and you'll be rewarded. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.

The 2019 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Lavaux St Jacques is a touch more muscular than the suave Cazetiers, exhibiting aromas of raspberries, cassis, rich soil tones and petals, followed by a medium to full-bodied, layered palate that's nicely concentrated, with powdery structuring tannins and lively acids.
The 2019 Gevrey-Chambertin Lavaux Saint-Jacques 1er Cru has a flamboyant bouquet of kirsch, crushed stone, orange blossom and black truffle, the 30% whole cluster neatly enmeshed. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins and great delineation on the finish. One of the most saline of Magnien’s cuvées. Excellent.
