A very subtle application of oak still frames the cool but ripe spicy red and black cherry aromas that display hints of secondary character together with notes of spice and earth. The vibrant, sleekly muscular and broad-shouldered flavors are powerful yet well-detailed on the strikingly intense finish that is chewy but not aggressive and blessed with impressive tension and depth. This is not one of the more seductive vintages of the Mongeard Ech but for those who enjoy punch and that lovely sense of the wine inviting you to have another glass, this would make a fine choice.
