Tasting notes
Another broad, generous wine is the 2020 Pouilly-Fuissé 1er Cru Ver Cras Vieilles Vignes, a medium to full-bodied, ample and fleshy bottling that's evocative of honeycomb, apricots, confit citrus and buttery pastry. Satiny and enveloping, with a sweet core of fruit, it concludes with a long, saline finish.

The 2020 Pouilly-Fuissé Vers Cras 1er Cru comes from vines planted the same year as the Les Resses with the same élevage, though here the soil is more calcaire. Hints of toffee apple on the nose, orchard fruit and orange blossom, perhaps missing the killer focus of the Les Resses at the moment. The palate is well balanced with fine acidity, good depth with orange rind, sour lemon, grapefruit and light peachy notes towards the finish. The aromatics need to just step up their game to match what is a very fine palate.
