Tighter and more citrus than I would have expected for this appellation and producer. Big and bold on the palate and decidedly unformed at this point. Difficult to read but there is real weight here and the slightly callow elements seem to be in the right proportions. I’m encouraged by the persistence too. But personally I’d go for a top premier over a grand cru like this. (JR)

The 2014 Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru has a gorgeous bouquet: orange blossom, cold limestone, chalk and a touch of citrus lemon that are all quite intense and well defined. The palate is well balanced with a slightly honeyed opening, leaning slightly on the richer side for the vintage, counterbalanced however by sufficient acidity to maintain tension. This is an excellent Bâtard-Montrachet from Pernot.

Pale green-yellow. Brisk aromas of lemon and lime zest, crushed herbs and white pepper, plus a faint buttery nuance. Supple and sweet but juicy and surprisingly light on its feet; larger-scaled than the Bienvenue but more closed today. Tightens up on the very ripe but slightly disjointed finish. Does this have the energy of the Bienvenue?
