Great stuff, juicy, balanced, enticing, 2009 in a glass. Just a brilliant wine, so delicious and balanced, packed with soft brambled fruits, liquorice and graphite. Not the most intense and concentrated that you'll find in St Julien but this is joyful, great stuff and ready to drink. A buy.

Love this 2009, it is so much Gloria at its best - plump black fruits, black cherry, damson, generous without overplaying its hand, offering signature St Julien mixed with a subtle glamour. The fruits are given depth and compleixty by black pepper spice, silky tannins, crushed rocks, aniseed. Beautiful and full of character. 40% new oak. Harvest September 24 to October 8. Remi di Constanzo technical director.

I chose this vintage of Gloria for my Bordeaux Advent Calendar with 67 Pall Mall. It's actually a wine that I have chosen two years in a row for the advent calendar, because it is such a sure fire hit, with the most festive of all labels (think angels and heavenly hosts). Taste-wise, this is Gloria at its best - plump and spiced black fruits, majoring on black cherry and damson, touch of smoke, pared-back generosity that speaks of St Julien, but with the kick of glamour and silky tannins that makes this such an appealing and distinct character in the appellation. 40% new oak.

About the producer

Ch. Gloria
Gloria

The modest Ch. Gloria was only created in the 1940s, when Henri Martin – a cooper – purchased some vines. With parcels dotted in amongst the region’s Classed Growths, it produces impressive wines. Today it's managed by Vanessa and Jean Triaud (Henri Martin’s granddaughter and grandson-in-law).
