Full bottle 1,250 g. Poggio Landi has vineyards spread across the north-west,  north-east and south-east of Montalcino. The 2018 vintage was cooler than the string of hot vintages to either side of it. Aged for 38 months in French oak barrels of varying  sizes. Aged for an additional 6 months after bottling. Winemaker Luigi Temperini. RS 0.5 g/l. Available 230 stores. Wine with age! Shaded ruby. Well resolved. But lacking a little soul and fruit concentration. Though anyone would be happy with this and it looks smart. (JR)

Bottle weight 500 g. Winemaker: Luigi Temperini. Aged for 38 months in French oak barrels of varying sizes. After bottling, the wine was aged for an additional six months. Natural cork. RS 0.5 g/l. Vegan and certified organic. Available in 219 stores. Pretty sturdy. Uncompromising Brunello which lacks charm. Rather drying on the finish. (AWH)

Bottle weight 523 g. Aged for 38 months in French oak barrels of varying sizes. RS 0.5 g/l. Certified organic.  Available in 208 stores. Transparent ruby. Nose needs coaxing out of the glass but it’s a treat to find a decent Brunello in a supermarket. Fully resolved tannins and lift. Really exciting stuff! Characteristically dry finish with some burnt-fruit character – that is not a negative. Heady in a Sangiovese way. GV (JR)

The 2018 Brunello Di Montalcino is forward with aromas of cedar, smoke, forest herbs, scorched earth, and black cherry. It is medium to full-bodied and presents an attractive profile, with a refreshing snap of acidity, ripe tannins, and notes of cranberry compote, orange peel, tea leaf, and turned earth. This is a solid expression for medium-term cellaring over the next 8-10 years.
