Nice nose of bacon fat, smoke, and dark fruits. Had some floral notes after some time in the glass. Nice big mouth feel and a nice finish. Nose closed up after some air and I couldn't really get anything. Elegant with a little oak and vanilla in the mouth.

This is a terrific bargain. D'Arenberg does a noteworthy job with their 100% Grenache cuvee called The Custodian. The 1999 The Custodian Grenache exhibits copious quantities of kirsch liqueur, ripe fruit, medium to full body, excellent purity, and a peppery, spicy, long finish. It is a delicious red to drink over the next 4-5 years. Importer: Old Bridge Cellars (Rob McDonald), Napa, CA; tel. (707) 258-9552

Medium red. Jammy cherry/berry, spice and floral aromas. Rich, sweet and supple, with flavors of red fruits, pepper and spicecake. Finishes with ripe tannins and lingering red fruits.
