Tasting notes
Bright crimson. Fully evolved nose. Very fresh and lively – great balance and great zest – rather unlike current Brunello! A lovely palate scrub and refresher. (JR)

The 1997 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva, is sizeable, warm, sweet, and weighty in aroma, as well as dense and polished on the palate with a long, strong finish. Drink: now-2014. My only reservations about this house is the number of wines, four in all, too many in terms of the acreage – I have some real doubts that a regular and Riserva bottling of the Brunello serve any real purpose. Saturated, bright ruby-red. Vibrant aromas of cassis, redcurrant, chocolate, mocha and violet. Large-scaled and rich yet also stylish and sharply delineated, with superripe berry, cherry pie and chocolate flavors framed by piquant acidity and lifted by a floral nuance. Finishes with superb vinosity and length, the firm but ripe tannins melting into the wine's powerful fruit. A classic examples of this vintage.
