Medium red. Less expressive on the nose than the Brulees, with a deeper pitch. Then a step up in density on the palate, where the wine opens nicely with air to show a fleshy, rounder texture and a floral element. Finishes with substantial sweet tannins, solid structure and very good length.

Medium cherry-red. Coolish aromas of red cherry, mint and fresh herbs. Then round and fat, with sweet cherry flavor nicely firmed by fresh acidity. Rather gentle '04 but not at all flat.

Cask sample. Curious nose – chestnuts? A hint of port? VA? Smooth texture. Very slightly less vivacious and skinnier than I feel it should be at this price. Competent. Correct but not totally convincing. (JR)
