2001 Mayacamas Cabernet Sauvignon Mount Veeder

Having tasted and purchased the legendary Mayacamas Cabernet Sauvignons made between 1968 and 1976, I remember them as massively concentrated, monster, tannic bombs when young. While some suggest that nothing has changed, a vertical tasting done a number of years ago showed a much lighter, less dense style starting in the late 1970s. That style continues with the 2001. This dark ruby/purple-tinged offering reveals a hint of minerality, but the wine is narrowly constructed, exhibiting notions of blue and black fruits that have nowhere near the power, density or depth of the wines made between 1968-1976.
