Mid ruby with some leathery notes and no uncomfortable tannin but it tastes as though the fruit impact is in retreat. Very sweet start and not that much varietal definition – perhaps a little too ripe? LIghtly athletic on the finish with a bit of charred meat on the finish. Lighter than Australian Shiraz but definitely much sweeter than northern Rhône. (JR)

An aromatic, sexy Syrah, Viader’s 2002 offers up scents of ripe figs, plums, smoke, currants, and flowers. Medium-bodied and soft, with low acidity, it is a seductive, alluring, elegant effort to enjoy now and over the next 3-4 years. Tel. (707) 963-3816
Medium red-ruby. Plum , game and smoky oak on the nose. Sweet, supple and vinous, with red fruit and game flavors of moderate ripeness and depth. An edge of acidity gives shape to the wine, but I'd like to have seen more del ineation and varietal character.
Tasted from a Taransaud barrel: Deep ruby-red. Aromas of black raspberry, blackberry, flowers and brown spices. Supple and ripe but also brisk and juicy, with lively acids and some oak showing. From Seguin-Moreau: Full medium ruby color. Dark chocolate and a hint of game on the nose. Juicy and sappy, with moderate density but good inner-mouth energy. Should make a polite, soft style of syrah.
