2008 Domaine Harmand-Geoffroy Gevrey-Chambertin Lavaux Saint-Jacques 1er Cru

The estate’s 2008 Gevrey-Chambertin Lavaux St. Jacques shows gorgeous transparency, detail and focus. Dark red fruit, flowers, sweet herbs and cedar are some of the nuances that emerge from this elegant, sleek Burgundy. This is one of the finest wines I tasted at Harmand-Geoffroy. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2020. The house style at Harmand-Geoffroy favors a rich, concentrated expression of fruit. Most of the 2009s were bottled in January 2011. I also had a chance to taste a selection of 2008s, which I generally think are superior to the 2009s here. The estate’s approach seems better balanced by the freshness and verve of that year.
