2011 Domaine Robert Chevillon Nuits-Saint-Georges Les Pruliers 1er Cru

Bright medium red. Ripe cherry on the rather closed nose. Dense and savory on the palate, with good peppery, herbal lift to its sappy black and red berry flavors. Nicely full and rich in the mouth, and already quite perfumed. Finishes with big, ripe tannins and lovely lift.

This is much more reserved than the Roncières with a background hint of wood spice combining with the well-layered mix of red and blue pinot fruit, warm earth and hint of the sauvage. There is good richness and notably more volume to the supple yet quite serious medium weight flavors that possess good phenolic ripeness and the same fine complexity telegraphed by the nose on the mouth coating and beautifully persistent finish. Tasted blind at the Burgundy 2011 horizontal tasting in Beaune. The Nuits Saint Georges 1er Cru Les Pruliers 2011 has a much more classical nose compared to Etienne Grivot’s, with attractive sous-bois notes penetrating the brambly red berry fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with crisp, slightly chalky tannins. There is fine tension here from start to finish, the acidity well judged and there is a gentle crescendo towards the tense, persistent and herbaceous-tinged finish.
