The 2004 Brunello di Montalcino lifts from the glass with a vibrant and surprisingly youthful mix of crushed cherries and strawberries, complicated by a tinge of black tea, dusty earth and sage. Juicy red berry fruits and a cascade of sweet spices splash across the palate, soft and pliant, with steely minerality adding traction toward the close. The 2004 finishes a bit short, with the slightest hint of rhubarb and hard red candies lingering on the close. This is a pleasure to taste, and while it may not have the staying power of the best wines of the vintage, it leaves me pretty satisfied.

Good full, deep red. Good lift to the rather Burgundian aromas of dark berries, black cherry, licorice, spices and earth. Suave, juicy and fresh, with lovely definition and vinosity giving shape and lift to the sweet fruit flavors. Finishes with a fine dusting of tannins and nice length. I'd give this energetic wine another two or three years in the cellar before pulling the cork.

Greyish crimson with a very evolved rim. Well melded bouquet if light bouquet of leaf mulch. Lively, good acidity, does taste very strongly of Sangiovese(!) with appetising lightness and bite on the finish.Tannins still present but fine. (JR)

The 2004 Brunello di Montalcino reveals dark red fruit, flowers, licorice and oak in a medium to full-bodied style. The tannins are nicely balanced and the wine offers plenty of richness to match. Stylistically the wine is fresher and more vibrant than the La Casa, with a flavor profile that tends towards red rather than black fruit. It is a lovely effort from Caparzo.
