Good bright red. Slightly medicinal nose is currently dominated by spicy oak. Then more varietally expressive in the mouth, but with a slightly dry, rustic quality to the redcurrant, tobacco and leather flavors. Finishes with firm-edged tannins and a light saline element.

Mid ruby with some development. Looks healthy and glowing. Surely some Bordeaux grapes in here? Or is it just a strong barrique effect? Either way, this is one of the lighter Brunello 2004s and is nicely balanced, even if a bit sweeter than the average Sangiovese. Some freshness. (JR)

The 2004 Brunello di Montalcino from Il Palazzone is sweet, open and accessible, with pretty notes of floral red fruits that blossom in a generous, round style. The wine shows lovely balance and persistence as suggestions of herbs, tobacco and spices linger on the finish. This is another of more forward wines of the vintage and the wine should drink well pretty much upon release.
