Firm but elegantly fruited, not at all severe. Classic, restrained and with plenty of space in the fruit.

The 2010 Clos du Marquis has quite a high-toned, floral bouquet with strong cedar and mint aromas that render it not unlike a Pauillac. The palate is medium-bodied with strict tannins and a fine bead of acidity. It is missing a little length and is more austere than expected, but it has the substance to age well. Patience needed. Tasted from an ex-château bottle at the BI Wines & Spirits 10-Year On tasting.

Deep garnet in color, the 2010 Clos du Marquis opens with medicinal, cherry cough syrup scents followed by a core of plum preserves and crème de cassis plus a touch of wild sage. Medium to full-bodied, the palate is coated with maturing black fruits and dried mint flavors, framed by chewy tannins and finishing with a refreshing lift.

Tasted blind. Deep garnet. Distinctive minty aroma and a woody (rather than oaky) scent too. Cedary and a bit leafy on the palate and very fresh if slightly lean in the middle. (JH)
