Tasting notes
I always feel like I've entered a vinous fairyland when I taste the wines made at Podere le Ripi. These are highly distinctive expressions that offer flurries of the unreal and unexpected. In the case of the 2013 Brunello di Montalcino Cielo d'Ulisse, the aromas dart around like Tinker Bell touching on red cherry, raspberry, licorice, cola and grilled herb. Each one of those characteristics is suddenly made bright and alive as if by a magic wand. A new vineyard parcel was recently purchased on the eastern side of the Brunello appellation, and fruit for this wine comes from this new, biodynamic site.

Just mid ruby with broad orange tinges. Immediate iron, orange, and subtle cherry nose. Very elegant and soft, with less depth than I expect from this estate, but it is supple and long and with energetic, gutsy tannins. Perhaps more an important Rosso than a full-blown Brunello. (WS) (JR)
