Tasting notes
Full medium ruby. Aromatic nose combines blackberry, cassis, leather, mocha, espresso and spicecake. A juicy, suave midweight with slightly inky dark fruit and torrefaction flavors firmly framed by well-integrated acidity. Not especially complex today but this is still youthful and unfolding. Finishes with a firm spine of tongue-dusting tannins and lively acidity. Fine-grained and full of life, with more ahead. (14.7% alcohol)

From a tannic vintage for Napa Cabernet, Etude’s 1999 is a stunning success. A dense ruby/purple color is followed by a restrained but noble bouquet of creme de cassis, vanilla, and lead pencil. This medium to full-bodied effort is elegant and concentrated with well-balanced tannin as well as extract. Anticipated maturity: 2006-2015. Tel. (707) 257-5300
The 1999 Cabernet Sauvignon Madrona Vineyard reveals leafy, olive-like herbaceousness in its tobacco, eucalyptus, black currant, and cigar box-scented bouquet. Complex aromatically, with spice and vegetable characteristics, it is a full-bodied, deep, rich, impressive effort. It will have 10-16 years worth of aging potential. (Not yet released) Tel.
