Score 95/100 · Drink 2025-2035, Jeb Dunnuck, Jul 2025

The 2022 Chardonnay Richard Dinner Vineyard is from this site on Sonoma Mountain and offers an elegant feel in its aromas of wet stones, lemon balm, and white pineapple. The palate is full but light on its feet, with a refreshing feel, a clean, floating texture, and balanced length. It’s a more elegant, nuanced expression of this site, with stony earth leading on the clean, citrus-noted finish. Drink 2025-2035.

A bright yellow with a green hue, the 2022 Chardonnay Richard Dinner Vineyard comes from a vineyard on Sonoma Mountain entirely planted to Chardonnay, which Paul Hobbs has been working over the past 30 years. On the nose, the wine is compact, with tropical and savory aromas of dark stones, pineapple, fresh flowers, and orange pith. Leaning toward full-bodied, it delivers lovely, ripe concentration and is long on the palate, with a lovely, rich structure through its long finish. Drink 2024-2037. 375 cases were produced.

The 2022 Chardonnay Richard Dinner Vineyard was bottled in August of 2023 and tasted in November. Grapes were picked before the historic Labor Day heat spike, and the wine matured in about 35% new French oak. It has slowly unfurling scents of matchstick, roasted almonds, spring honey and white peaches with spicy undertones. The medium-bodied palate features generous, mineral-laced fruit, juicy acidity and a long, perfumed finish. This bright, juicy style is dangerously easy to drink! 375 cases were made, and it will be released in March of 2024.
