Broad, ample and resonant, the 1993 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva is fabulous. Rose petals, spice, blood orange and mocha meld into a core of deep, layered red-toned fruit. The wine’s density and overall palate presence are simply remarkable. The 1993 Riserva has long been an under-the-radar gem among Soldera’s wines from this era.

Soldera's 1993 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva is powerful, dense and tightly wound, especially when compared with the 1994 Riserva tasted alongside it. A deep core of fruit and imposing tannins are pushed forward. The 1993 Riserva is often much more expressive than this.
The 1993 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva takes us on a journey. It is at times quite open, while at other times it is much more reticent. Powerful, intense and structured, the 1993 is at its best towards the end of the night.
Soldera’s 1993 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva is a revelation. Served blind, it comes across as an old-school Barbaresco in its mid-weight structure and sinewy tannins. But no, it is Sangiovese, and totally gorgeous.
About the producer
Soldera is one of the most highly rated, fiercely collected wines of Italy. The winery is based in the Brunello di Montalcino, however the estate is no longer labelled as a Brunello, following a fall out with the consortium. Made from 100% Sangiovese, the wine is currently bottled as a Toscana IGT.
