40% of the wine fermented and aged in small oak, with 12 months’ ageing on fine lees. The oak is so much less obvious here than on the Jadot Blanchot 2015. Here there’s more cedary and stony mineral character but still some mouth-watering citrus. Has the great acid structure of the vintage and enough fruit core to age well and long. (JH)

The 2014 Chablis Grand Cru les Blanchots has a very detailed bouquet with crushed rock, gypsum, green apple and light sea spray scents that are all beautifully poised and show a little more pedigree than the Les Bouguerots. The palate is well balanced with crisp acidity, detailed and poised with a very well-judged line of acidity. What it might be just missing is that killer blow on the finish, just tapering a little prematurely when you are enjoying the show too much. Perhaps that will be addressed with continued bottle age? This apart, it represents an excellent Blanchots.

Loads of dairy aromas plus highly intense citrus fruit with a chewy texture and a long mineral finish. Potent, intense – totally worth the grand cru label. (RH)

(60% oak): Pale bright yellow with green highlights. Raw pineapple, grapefruit and some obvious oak on the nose. Densely packed and supple, with superb purity and intensity to its grapefruit, lime and mineral flavors, with the wine's oak component nicely integrated. Very young but not austere owing to its thickness of texture and depth. The superb slowly building finish boasts terrific energy and enticing subtle sweetness.
