2019 Château du Domaine de l'Eglise

The 2019 Domaine de l'Eglise still has a very opulent bouquet that feels pushed and molded by the growing season. As I previously noted, it needs more Pomerol typicité . The palate is sweet and slightly chewy, showing good depth. A real mouth-filling Pomerol with quite a toasty, cracked-black-pepper-tinged finish.

The 2019 Domaine de l'Eglise has quite a high-toned nose that needs more complexity, all upfront black fruit but I am seeking more terroir expression and Pomerol DNA behind it. The palate is medium-bodied with gritty tannins, a "solid" mid-palate with fine grip and a lightly spiced, conservative finish. Not bad overall, though I would like more panache and precision.

A small estate managed by Philippe Casteja and located not far from Château Clinet and L'Eglise Clinet, the 2019 Château Du Domaine De L'Eglise boasts a deep purple hue as well as sumptuous notes of black cherries, jammy blackberry, leafy herbs, chocolate, and damp earth. It's rich and full-bodied, with wonderful fruit and a great finish. Almost all Merlot (there's a splash of Cabernet Franc), this beauty will benefit from just short-term cellaring and keep for 15 years or more.
