Score 17/20 · Drink 2021-2028, Walter Speller, jancisrobinson.com, Aug 2021

100% Cesanese di Affile from Mola da Piedi, a 60-year-old small vineyard. Soft pressing of whole bunches by foot-treading in open oak vats. Spontaneous fermentation in oak casks and amphora. Natural clarification following the lunar calendar. Aged in demijohns and amphora.   Dark ruby. An amplified version of Rapha ël  with more concentration but the same litheness. Dark fruit lined with a gorgeous layer of oatmeal and liquorice powder and bay leaf. Polished, fine and long sandy tannins. Hints of Moroccan leather on a blackberry finish. Super-compelling. (WS)
