Drink 2018-2030, Neal Martin, Wine Advocate, Mar 2015

The 2013 Old Vine Zinfandel comes from vines that Peter Rosback believes were planted in 1902 or thereabouts. Peter opined that this wine need several years in bottle and that the earliest drinking vintage is 2002. Delivering 15.2% alcohol, it has a very heady bouquet with kirsch, Xmas pudding and black cherry aromas that are lost within a haze of alcohol. The palate is sweet and slightly cloying on the entry, intensely tannic, with a nagging green note toward the finish that is reminiscent of a Stellenbosch Pinotage! To be totally honest I find this difficult to even think about swallowing in a appreciable measure.
