Hand-numbered magnum number 136 of 1,510 produced. Date of harvest: 5 October 1999. Impenetrable dark ruby and lots of fine sediment in the glass. Stylistically a little different from previous vintages, with a richer if quite closed nose. Gorgeous, intense but not sweet dark fruit and lots of acidity followed by waves and waves of powdery tannins. Still so youthful, and still needs to become a whole. No signs of age at all. Long, long black fruit finish. (WS)

Nothing in particular seems to stand out about the 1999 Caberlot. Instead, the whole is clearly greater than the sum of its parts. It is a very complete and well-balanced Caberlot offering plenty of deeply expressive fruit intermingled with more advanced balsamic notes, showing terrific overall harmony. Today it appears to be somewhat closed down and I may have caught it at a slightly awkward stage in its development. Nevertheless it offers much potential.
