The 1971 Vouvray Le Mont Moelleux is limpid golden in hue. Intense aromas of acacia honey laced with orange blossom and linseed burst from the glass undiminished by the passing years. The palate is well balanced with a slight fumé note that I observed on a previous bottle. Still, it has a gorgeous finish with dried apricot and marmalade, conveying a vibrancy that should see it lasting another decade at least. Tasted from a bottle at home (ex-domaine if I recall).

Bit short of fruit. Bit dull, needs more fruit, bit dead even from a freshly opened bottle. (JR)

Deep orangy tawny. Clean and intriguing on the nose. Noel Pinguet loves the balance. Botrytis. Had acid and concentration. Low yields: just 17 hl/ha. Acidity hides the sugar and this is a baby. Acidity is 6.5 when usual ideal is 5-6. Lots of density and potential there but too early in its life to discern individual flavours really: just acid, apple and a touch of honey. Great tension.
