The 2002 Chambolle-Musigny Les Amoureuses 1er Cru has a beguiling bouquet with pure brambly red fruit, fine mineralité , hints of sous-bois and pressed flower. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, a fine bead of acidity, not a powerful or decadent Les Amoureuses but complex and mineral-driven. There is a slight earthiness towards the finish that feels very persistent. This is completely divine and should give many years of drinking from pleasure. Tasted at Sarah Marsh MW’s 2002 Red Burgundy tasting.

Pale ruby. Again, like the Mugnier, there's a tiny vegy note on the nose here. But still a hint of blue in the colour. Lots of acidity and some concentration but arguably a bit too edgy to be really charming. Still not quite 'settled' with slightly dry fine tannins on the end. A tiny bit leathery in terms of texture. And quite marked acidity. (JR)

The 2002 Chambolle-Musigny Les Amoureuses 1er Cru has outstanding transparency and detail on the nose, a tangible step up in mineralité compared directly with the 2002 Les Cras. There is also more black fruit here – hints of cassis and blueberry indicating its vineyard origin. The palate is beautifully structured with pitch perfect acidity, superb tension from start to finish and dare I say, even more complexity than the splendid 2002 Bonnes-Mares. The best wine Christophe Roumier made in 2002? Probably. Tasted blind at the Roumier dinner in Hong Kong.
