Tasted blind at the annual “Burgfest” tasting in Brouilland. The 2013 Chablis 1er Cru Montée de Tonnerre has a fragrant bouquet with citrus lemon, yellow flowers and orange blossom scents, a fine threat of mineralité underneath. The palate is well balanced with a rounded, peachy entry. There seems to be a bit if new oak here but it is nicely integrated and imparts attractive praline notes towards the finish. This simply needs more time. Tasted May 2016.

Pale, bright yellow. Tangy aromas of orange, lemon, crushed stone and smoke. Fine-grained and deep, displaying lovely depth to its citrus and floral flavors. Showing a bit more oak than most of the other 2013s, as the Raveneaus used what Bernard described as "younger old barrels" to age this wine. In an essentially fruity, supple style, finishing with good energy and fresh herbal lift.
The 2013 Chablis Montée de Tonnerre is showing just the barest hint of its potential today. Inward and not fully expressive, the 2013 is a wine of balance. The Montée de Tonnerre has neither the obvious richness of the Vaillons, nor the mineral and acid drive of the Butteaux, but rather a highly attractive combination of both. It will be fascinating to see how the 2013 develops in bottle, but it should be pretty special over the next 10-15 years, perhaps beyond.
Bright yellow-green. High-pitched aromas of stone fruits, flint and powdered stone. Pliant, broad and dry but youthfully backward, with peach and apricot flavors currently displaying less tension than the Butteaux. Showing some warmth in the early going. I suspect this is better than it's showing today.
