Tasting notes
Proprietor Sassetti's 1995 Brunello di Montalcino is one of the finest tasted from the vintage. The dark garnet/ruby color is followed by complex characteristics of cedar wood, dried tobacco, licorice, Asian spices, and black cherry/currant fruit. Generous and full-bodied, with sweet fruit, light to moderate tannin, and a long finish, this Brunello can be drunk now as well as over the next decade. Medium red. Warm aromas of black cherry, chestnut and minerals. Superripe, even somewhat roasted, with a fat, creamy middle and deep but sweet tannins. Seamless and elegant Brunello.
Medium garnet, lighter at the edge. Sweet on the nose, showing the elegant cherry and plum tones of a wine that is virtually ready to drink. Medium weight on the palate and smooth in texture, with appealing fruit and spice and lovely balance. Finishes with light, polished tannins. A classic example of Brunello di Montalcino from the northern part of the zone.
