The 2012 Vosne-Romanée Les Rouges du Dessus is powerful and resonant in the glass, with considerable depth and plenty of texture. Dark red and black stone fruits meld into spice, new leather and smoke as this powerful, voluptuous wine gradually unfurls in the glass. There is no shortage of personality or complexity here. The 2013 finishes with substantial depth and polish, some slight hints of reduction notwithstanding.

Lightish nose. Correct but without quite the zip of a really thrilling Vosne. (JR)
The 2013 Vosne Romanee les Rouges du Dessus 1er Cru, like the Village Cru, is initially bashful on the nose and demands coaxing. I would have liked a little more aromatic delineation to be honest but it will suffice. The palate is supple on the entry with fleshy red berry fruit mixed with allspice and white pepper, structured on the finish but needing to develop a little more finesse befitting a premier cru.
