Pale yellow. Youthfully imploded nose hints at peach and smoky lees. Closed in the mouth as well, showing a slight bitter edge to the flavors of herbs, flowers and crushed stone. Best today on the juicy, echoing finish, which shows a subtle saline character.

Smoky/mineral restraint. Sour grapefruit citrus flavours, tight and concentrated, taking no prisoners at the moment but much more to come. Supple and persistent and refined. (JH)

Pale yellow. Sweet peach, lemon, yellow flowers, mint and noble herbs on the nose, complicated by notes of hazelnut and basil. Dense and ripe but less pliant than the Pucelles, displaying good cut to the lemon, lime and floral flavors. Finishes firmer and longer than the Pucelles but less opulent today.

One of the more extroverted wines in the lineup, the 2011 Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet boasts considerable depth and harmony. Citrus, white flowers, floral-infused honey and chamomile take shape in the glass. This is a decidedly understated, feminine style of Bienvenues, and it works nicely. Saline notes underpin the creamy, inviting finish.
