The 2020 Chablis La Moutonne Grand Cru has a spicier bouquet compared to its peers. It's nuanced in style, and lemon thyme and flint hints emerge with aeration. This blossoms in the glass, unlike the Vaudésir bottling. The palate is taut and crisp. It's tensile with a fresh, edgy, mineral-driven finish that delivers stem ginger and lemongrass touches on the aftertaste. There is lovely sapidity here; this is one of the top wines from Long-Dépaquit this vintage. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting.

The 2020 Chablis La Moutonne Grand Cru is a bit bashful on the nose compared to the 2021, which is a surprise as I would have thought it might be the other way around. Coaxing doesn't do much. The palate is well balanced with a fine bead of acidity, taut and fresh, nicely integrated oak with ample depth towards the finish. There is just the right amount of bitterness here and finally, enfin, it begins to strut its stuff after 10 minutes. Tasted blind at the BIVB tasting in Chablis.

Monopole. TA (sulphuric) 3.75 g/l, TA (tartaric) 5.74 g/l, pH 3.3. 14 months' ageing, no new oak. Cask sample. Full-bodied, ripe and exotic (for Chablis) there is great purity here with plenty of acidity to promote long-term ageing. Apple fruit with a touch of creamy almond on the finish. I suspect this has a great future ahead of it. (AWH)
