Tasting notes
A more deeply pitched and notably more sauvage-inflected nose exhibits aromas of poached plum, dark cherry, spice and hints of forest floor. The rich and more full-bodied flavors also flash more evident minerality on the more powerful and more structured finale that flirts with rusticity. This muscular effort is going to require at least a modicum of patience and should reward a decade plus of keeping. This too is excellent and very CAM in character. Sweet spot Outstanding. The 2022 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Combe Aux Moines is also very nicely balanced, delivering aromas of ripe plums, red berries, cherries and spices, followed by a medium to full-bodied, layered and fleshy palate with good depth at the core and bright balancing acids.
Cask sample. A very elegant and fine Pinot. Disarmingly pale in the glass and certainly no heavyweight. Lots of crisp acidity and leafy character with a firm tannic structure. High proportion of stem inclusion? Has the concentration for the long haul but will always be on the lighter side in style terms. (AWH)
