Deep cherry red. Spicy and rich in dark-red fruit. Smooth, deep texture, the tannins seem thickened by the oak so it needs time for finesse to take over from primary characteristics. Chewy and satisfying at the moment. Promises more thanks to the seam of freshness. (JH)

The 2014 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru les Carrières, matured in 50% new oak (four barrels from eight) has a well-defined bouquet of blackcurrant, raspberry coulis and cold wet limestone. There is clearly fine mineralité here. The palate is medium-bodied with crisp, slightly chalky tannin, vibrant in the mouth with plenty of nascent energy on the shimmering vintage. This has great potential -- one to check out.
