2017 Groebe Westhofener Kirchspiel Riesling Spätlese

Having enjoyed the privilege of a vertical tasting of Fritz Groebe’s Kirchspiel Riesling Spätlese a few years ago, it is obvious that he has a special affinity with this particular wine. Ripe apple with cracking acidity and a fine bitter notion of peel, garden herbs, a hint of honey and a touch of forest floor conspire to achieve an outstanding level of complexity, which is presented with juicy gusto. To find out whether it will ever reach the heights of the 2001 we will have to be patient for another ten years. (MS)
