The 2023 Chambertin-Clos de Bèze Grand Cru is the broadest, richest wine in the cellar, bursting with aromas of sweet cherries, cassis, incense and licorice. Full-bodied, dense and enveloping, it's textural and extravagant, with a lavish core of fruit, ripe tannins and an expansive finish.
Cask sample. Mid ruby. As usual this is immediately more exuberant than the Chambertin … but the character is not so different. It remains concentrated, with filigree acidity and the rarest, faintest stamp of tannins. They are there, but this is a very Chambertin-esque Clos de Bèze. Perhaps just an extra layer of silk. The 2023 Chambertin Clos-de-Bèze Grand Cru has a transcendent bouquet with a cornucopia of red berry fruit, hints of pressed flowers, forest floor and a tinge of oyster shell. Stunning delineation. The palate is medium-bodied with finely chiseled tannins and more tension and energy than the Chambertin. This is also lighter on its feet, with a pixelated finish that fans out gloriously. Heavenly.
