FINE+RARE, Apr 2023

The 2022 vintage suits Belle-Brise perfectly. Stylistically, Belle-Brise is about purity and restraint, and the natural concentration and intensity of the vintage has brought an added level of energy and power to the wine, without losing any of its finesse. The wine has Belle-Brise’s typical aromatic flair with black cherry and blackberry confit, alongside iron-like mineral tones that bring a savoury counterpoint to the heightened floral and fruity aromas. The palate has exceptional balance, with energy to the compact, refined and rounded tannins. There is a lovely clarity and purity to the fruit notes and a pleasing, dark-chocolate bitterness on the finish that leaves your mouth watering. Despite the warmth of the vintage, the wine is just 13.5%. This certainly sits alongside 2019 as one of the estate’s finest wines to date – this being the 33rd consecutive vintage for Henri-Bruno de Coincy. Blend: 80% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc. Aged in a third new oak, a third one-year-old and a third two-year-old barrels.

About the producer

Château Belle-Brise - producer
Belle Brise

Tucked away in Pomerol’s southwest corner Ch. Belle-Brise is the ultimate insider’s Bordeaux. With just two hectares of walled garden vineyard, production at this estate is minuscule, making it one of the rarest wines in the marketplace (and arguably more exclusive than either Pétrus or Le Pin).
