Tasting notes
The 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer Las Piedras Vineyard comes from a site just west of Dr. Crane and it shares plenty with that wine, offering red, black, and blue fruits, notes of ground herbs, earth, graphite, and dried tobacco, a rich, full mid-palate, building tannins, and a great finish. It too needs time.

The 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer Las Piedras shows all of the intense mineral savoriness that is typical of this site, but in a distinctly airier, more lifted style than usual. This makes for a fascinating Las Piedras with a translucent energy I have never seen here before. More importantly, the 2017 will drink well right out of the gate. This is such a pretty, complex and nuanced wine.
Very deep purple-black in color, the 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer Las Piedras Vineyard gives up a broody nose of earthy/savory layers to begin, with notions of truffles, charcoal, forest floor and fertile loam over a core of blackcurrant pastilles, wild blueberries and black plums plus a touch of menthol. Full-bodied, tightly knit and firmly structured, it has soft acidity and restrained, savory flavors, finishing on an earthy note.
