Served at a birthday gathering in.....Burgundy! The first double magnum (what a phrase!) was a bit subdued and soft but the second was much more vigorous and lively with rich meatiness. Clearly not a top vintage for this appellation but pretty glorious now. (JR)

Moderately saturated medium red. Aromas of cherry, earth, minerals and nutty oak. Supple, smooth and fat, but with some edgy acidity yet to be absorbed. Lacks the dimension of the young 2004, but finishes with reasonably sweet tannins.

Deep ruby with an attractive, moderately intense bouquet of sweet cherries, flowers, plums, some earth, and new oak, this wine is medium-bodied, nicely balanced, with ripe tannin, not a great deal of depth, but a good solid mid-palate and attractive finish. It should drink well for 10-12 years.

Pretty, silky wine with plum and berry character and hints of toasted oak. Medium- to full-bodied, with fine tannins and a long finish. Chewy. Moueix is doing a lot to make this a showpiece estate in Pomerol. Best after 2008. 3,330 cases made. James Suckling, Wine Spectator 2005
