Tasting notes
The 2019 Vosne-Romanée Les Suchots 1er Cru has a classy bouquet of pure red berry fruit, incense, violet and beautifully-integrated oak. There is wonderful delineation here. The palate is medium-bodied, suave and satiny, with pliancy and elegance all the way through a seamless finish. And yet…and yet…returning after 15 minutes, it seems to lose a bit of its luster, and I notice a bit of heat on the finish. Hence, I have to reduce what was initially a big score. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.

A riper and less elegant but more complex nose combines notes of black raspberry, cassis, Asian-style tea and a plethora of exotic spice nuances, especially star anise and hoisin. There is excellent mid-palate density to the suave but relatively powerful medium weight plus flavors that possess a highly attractive texture, all wrapped in a caressing, velvety and strikingly long finale. This too is terrific, and it should be a knockout in time. (92-95)/2031+
Lavish and enveloping, the 2019 Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Les Suchots offers up inviting aromas of plums, raspberries, sweet spices, rich soil tones and rose petals. Medium to full-bodied, layered and textural, it's concentrated and gourmand, with lively acids and a long, expansive finish.
