Mid shaded garnet. Pure Tuscany (I can no longer see the 20% Merlot blended with the Sangiovese here). So lifted! Very appetising with some balsam notes but it's pretty light. Very unlike most Gran Selezione wines. This is less opulent than its twin bottle but it has been kept in less-than-ideal conditions (too hot). Lucky people to have this wine stored in perfect conditions because it's very fine. (JR)

Castello di Ama excels in cooler vintages with long growing seasons for slow-ripening Sangiovese. The 2013 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Vigneto la Casuccia shows excellent results. This wine is released in limited bottle numbers and exhibits profound elegance and beauty. It is softly layered and delicate with wild berry, dried cherry and light baking spice. Vigneto la Casuccia boasts a fine level of intricate embroidery and texture.
The 2013 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Vigneto La Casuccia is soft, open-knit and succulent. Silky tannins wrap around a core of dark red cherry, plum, rose petal mint and sweet spices. The Casuccia is the most sensual and racy of the Ama wines today. It should drink well with minimal cellaring. Once again, the purity of the fruit is striking. The creamy, explosive finish is a thing of beauty. The second time I tasted the 2013 one word came to mind: elation.
12.58 hectares, six planted in 1978 and the rest in 2007. 80% Sangiovese, 20% Merlot. Blackish crimson. Really dramatic nose with some opulence – like glacé Sangiovese. Oo really rather gorgeous. So glamorous. Rich and chestnutty on the nose. A wonderful expression of Chianti Classico crossed with intensity. Great balance. Much more forward than San Lorenzo and Vigneto Bellavista 2013. (JR)
