A very good vintage as opposed to great. Very hot summer. More sun than 1959. Sweet and ripe but low acid. Three star and 'Drying out elegantly' in 1996 according to Michael Broadbent. Sold some vineyards to Prinz von Hessen and Kloster Eberbach . Pale orange tawny. Light nose with some minerals. Hint of cabbage, relatively light. Past its peak – a little pale and with some chew. Not especially persistent. Pretty but fading. (JR)
