Pale straw-yellow. Brooding aromas of pineapple, menthol and minerals. Densely packed, massive and classically dry, with considerable power to the honey, mineral and crushed stone flavors. Much less expressive today than the Bienvenue-Batard but at least as long on the aftertaste, which shows a vibrant lime character with some aeration. This will be slow to develop.

It is rather wonderful to be able to pour oneself a grand cru without even a pourer! Real energy here – less fat than one might expect. Quite tense in fact. A Bâtard 2009 on a diet? Pretty impressive. (JR)

(aging in 30% new oak, vs. 20% to 25% for the premier crus) Pale color. The ripest of these 2009s on the nose, even a tad exotic, offering scents of fresh apricot, citrus fruits, clove and smoke. Concentrated fruit salad flavors are nicely framed by harmonious acidity. A very ripe, almost apricotty style but also powerful and classically dry. The crop level here was just 40 hectoliters per hectare, according to Pernot.
