Tasting notes
Vines planted in 1982. Harvested 20 August. Fermented at low temperatures in small, open-top tanks and punched down by hand one to three times per day. Aged 20 months in 20% new French oak, a few older French oak barrels, two seasoned demi-muids and a large foudre. TA 8.1 g/l, pH 3.73. CCOF organic. Medium nearing pale ruby in colour – quite unusual. Lively nose with high-toned red fruit – redcurrant, cherry and pomegranate – and a lovely rose-like floral note. The palate is fresh and earthy with notes of cedar, mulch and soft green herbs complimenting the bright red fruit. Gentle but persistent tannin. Incredibly elegant. (SCJ)
