Drink 2024-2036, FINE+RARE, Nov 2022

Pale yellow in colour, Bellene’s Bâtard-Montrachet has a charming and welcoming nose, powered by citrus, with orange zest that brings fantastic freshness. The mouth-feel is unctuous at first, but it’s balanced – with the richness and power backed by crisp minerality and a sharp tautness to the mid-palate. The finish is rounder and mouthcoating, with ripe white fruit and brioche notes along with a touch of bitterness that makes the wine moreish. It is clearly too young to enjoy now but shows great promise; after three or four years in the cellar, it should be outstanding and will age much longer. The tiny volumes produced mean this will, inevitably, be difficult to source after release.
